Fried Rice, the go-to
5 steps to good fried rice:
* Good Rice- long grain brown rice, cooked slightly al dente
* Mirin
* Soy Sauce
* Rice Vinegar
* Chinese Five-Spice
3 more steps to excellent fried rice:
~ Sesame Oil
~ Chili Powder
~ Lots of veggies.
Stir fry the following over medium-high heat in sesame oil.
Carrots
Onion
Turnip
When softened, add
Daikon radish
Red pepper
soy sauce
After about 4 minutes, throw 3 cups of cooked brown rice, 1-2 tsp chili powder, more soy sauce to taste, 2-3 Tb mirin, a splash of rice vinegar, 3/4 tsp Chinese Five Spice powder which has annato, licorice, cumin, clove, cinnamon and coriander, and 3/4 cup of green peas into the pan. I also added 1/2 tsp garlic powder to the mix as well as some Teriyaki "Beef" faux meat that we had in the freezer and needed to get rid of. Fry fry fry. Right at the end, throw in a cup of mung bean sprouts and 1/4 cup chopped scallions. Mix gently. Serve!
