Seedling Update, 2 weeks after germination

After keeping plenty of seedbeds evenly moist and waiting patiently for "true leaves" to form on my seedlings, I was faced with the grueling task of repotting the babies into slightly bigger biodegradable containers.  Well, it was actually a complete pleasure to do so, especially with my loving beautiful friend E. We hadn't seed eachother since September '09 and before that, ugh! I can't even think about it.  So I am pretty sure the best time to garden and care for your plants is when the universe has aligned to bring friends together! So much love.  They survived this well.

All we had to do was thin the seedlings and plant either individually or in small clusters.  We cheated and planted up to 3 seedlings in one pot because we couldn't stand to have that many casualties.  Truly the most difficult part yet was to choose the strong from the weak and chuck the latter to the side! Thankfully plants like amaranth like to grow in bunches! Then on the difficult side, tomatoes should really be grown separately.

After all was said and done, they look happy and healthy.  Unfortunately, we lost the English Thyme because it really did not even germinate! That was the only failure! Not too bad, eh? Now they are being watered with Miracle Grow, adjusting to more realistic light cycles, and weaning off the electric heater.  Oh, and being trampled on by cats...

This week, I start a second round of seedlings! Eek!!  And finish up yard work, check out the progress!

Looks gardenable right? Our neighbors said that the man who used to own this house had a huge beautiful garden.  I think when he died, the slumlord that I have now just let the yard completely go for 10 years.  UNTIL NOW! Have you ever pulled up bamboo roots? No? I hope you never have to! It was so intense.  Their root systems are rhizomes, which means they form long horizontal masses and shoot off of each other underground. Very difficult to cut off.  It will take constant monitoring throughout the summer!

Oh! I also found chives out back!

That's all for now, I have many delicious food things to blog about!

Love,

JP
